Rainbow at Peterson Ridge

MAP: Click here (This takes time)

RATED: Hang 1-4 / P1-2 Paragliding
LAUNCH ELEVATIONS: 5600 to 7000 Feet
LANDING ELEVATION: 5100 Feet

SITE DESCRIPTION: This ridge has flying for all levels; beginner training to expert. It is a very popular Paragliding site for East to SSE winds. It is a ridge soarable and thermaling mountain range. There are 4 improved paragliding launches. This site provides the safest ridge soaring during East winds.

SEASONS: This area is generally assessable throughout the winter, but beware of mud on the valley floor.

ROADS TO LAUNCHES: Only launch #1 can be reached by car (from the West). All other launches require high clearance or 4 WD. Both approaches from the East require 4WD.

Launch "1"- The tree launch is right above a large flat landing area. There is a cleared area just below the tree for Paragliders.

LAUNCH "2"- This launch generally has less wind than Launch 1.

LAUNCH "3"- There are 2 cleared areas 100 feet below the road. Beware of rotor from East winds at this launch.

LAUNCH "4"- In a shallow gully below the road, there are 2 cleared areas. Beware of large boulders below the launch.

LANDING ZONES: The valley is flat and open with sagebrush and grassy areas. Pick your spot. Dangers: Some fences are in the valley. Look over the area good so you know where they are.
