MAP: Click here (This may take some time)
TERRAIN: This area is mountainous, high altitude, desert air. It is very dangerous. Use extreme caution. Fly with a good helmet, parachute, and strong glider with modern dive recovery systems.
AIRPORT: Reno, NV has an International Airport. Our flying sites surround it. Observe the Airport Control Zone (CZ) and Airport Radar Service Area (ARSA), now called Class B through E restricted airspace.
COMMUNICATION: FM radio communication is used here. The standard USHGA station is 151.955; some pilots use 151.625 tone 100. The HAM repeater used is 147.150 + tone 123 on top of Mt. Rose. It is used to evaluate the flying conditions to determine where to go and when. Local simplex frequencies are 146.555 and 147.555. Do not talk on any HAM two-meter frequency unless you have your license and use your call sign. Never fly using the repeater frequency. Do not use VOX on station frequencies commonly used by other pilots. Find other stations.
PUBLIC AWARENESS: We are always being observed by the public and regulatory agencies. We are observed in person and on the radio. Always conduct yourself in a professional manner. Do not litter the area. Accumulated trash can close the sites down.
There are plenty of flying areas here. A 4WD is recommended so you can always get to these areas. A few of the flying sites are extremely sensitive and are on the verge of being shut down. Do not fly anywhere except the designated areas in this site guide unless you have a local representative take you to these sites.
