Daydreams

MAP: NA

RATED: Hang 4 / P2 MUST CONTACT LOCAL PILOT.

SITE DESCRIPTION: Flying Lake Tahoe is very sensitive. Daydreams is our most fragile site. The landing area if you do not soar is a beach full of people. It is imperative that this area be respected so we can fly it in the future.
The site has always been flown by the locals in a way not to land near the beach full of people. These are the special conditions in which the area has been flown to avoid landing on a crowded beach. The winds have to come up strong in the afternoon so the hill is soarable, and the people move off the beach. Flying this site when it is not soarable is a serious mistake. ONLY HIGHLY EXPERIENCED MOUNTAIN PILOTS SHOULD FLY HERE. Crowds require you to land later in the evenings, especially on weekends.
Public safety is most important at this site. There is an ordnance against landing on the beach, so you can be cited with a ticket if there is any trouble WITH ANY BODY OR ANYTHING. Do not ruin it for yourself later and other people now. The community can shut down the site easily by enforcing the ordnance.

Because of the drought through 1994, the lake receded providing a larger landing area making this site more popular and easier to land, however, this is not the case any more.

Each pilot must be highly skilled at ridge soaring from a shallow, wind shaded takeoff area, make an immediate right hand turn, and climb up in a narrow lift band. This is not a site for the inexperienced.

There is a limit of 3 gliders that can be set up comfortably at a time, so do not bring a large group. It is always possible that the gate is locked by the forest service, so keep that in mind. Overall, fly the 2 other west facing sites (Redrock and McClellan awesome sites listed in the site guide.

If you must, CONTACT A LOCAL LISTED BELOW FOR THE CURRENT SITUATION BEFORE GOING TO DAYDREAMS and find someone who can help you fly there.
